These are the rules for using Paperstack. We've written them to be readable. Please read them — there are a few important things in here, especially around subscriptions and dispute resolution.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Paperstack ("we," "our," or "us") governing your access to and use of the Paperstack iOS application and all related services (collectively, the "Service").
By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not download or use the Service.
Arbitration notice: Section 14 of these Terms contains a binding arbitration clause and a class action waiver. Please read that section carefully — it affects how disputes between you and Paperstack are resolved.
Paperstack is an iOS application that helps individuals and households capture, organize, and track receipts, product warranties, and important household documents. Core features include:
Paperstack is available in the following plans:
Features included in each plan are described on our Pricing page. We reserve the right to modify, add, or remove features from any plan with reasonable notice to affected users.
To use Paperstack, you must create an account by providing a valid email address. We use one-time passcodes (OTP) for authentication — no password is required or stored. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, as it is your primary means of authenticating with Paperstack.
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are located in a jurisdiction where the age of digital consent is higher (such as 16 in certain EU member states), you must meet that higher age requirement. By creating an account, you represent that you meet the applicable age requirement. If you are a parent or guardian creating an account for a minor who meets the age requirements, you agree to these Terms on that minor's behalf and are responsible for their use of the Service.
Each person may maintain only one Paperstack account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits or other restrictions is a violation of these Terms and may result in termination of all associated accounts.
You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised (e.g., unauthorized access to your email account), contact us immediately at support@trypaperstack.app. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from unauthorized use of your account where we were not negligent.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account, and to update your information promptly if it changes. Providing false or misleading information is grounds for account termination.
Current pricing for Paperstack plans is as follows:
All prices are in US dollars and are exclusive of any applicable taxes.
New Vault subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. Your payment method will not be charged until the trial period ends. If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged. Only one free trial is available per Apple ID.
All subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store. Payment is processed by Apple on our behalf via RevenueCat. By subscribing, you agree to Apple's payment terms in addition to these Terms. Your Apple ID account will be charged at the confirmation of purchase and at the start of each renewal period. We do not collect or store your payment card information.
Vault subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Auto-renewal may be turned off in your iPhone's Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Paperstack.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Paperstack. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to Vault features until that date. Cancelling a subscription does not delete your account or your data.
All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store. Refunds for in-app purchases are subject to Apple's refund policy, which you can review at support.apple.com. We do not independently issue refunds for subscription fees after 48 hours of purchase, except as required by applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction. If you believe you are entitled to a refund under applicable law, contact us at support@trypaperstack.app.
The Lifetime plan is a one-time purchase that grants permanent access to all Vault-tier features for your single account. Lifetime access is non-transferable, non-refundable after 48 hours, and tied to your Paperstack account (not your Apple ID for ongoing billing purposes). If we cease operating the Service, we will provide Lifetime purchasers with at least 12 months' advance notice before terminating access.
We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice of any price increase via email. If you do not cancel your subscription before the price change takes effect, your continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
Apple collects and remits applicable taxes on your behalf in accordance with local law. You are responsible for any taxes applicable to your purchase that Apple does not collect.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. The following uses are expressly prohibited:
Violation of this Acceptable Use policy may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account, without refund of any fees paid.
You retain full ownership of all receipts, documents, notes, and other content you upload or create within the Service ("Your Content"). These Terms do not transfer any ownership of Your Content to us.
By uploading Your Content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. This license includes the right to send receipt images to our AI parsing provider (Anthropic) for OCR processing, as described in our Privacy Policy. This license terminates when you delete the content or close your account.
We do not claim ownership of Your Content. We do not use Your Content to train machine learning models without your explicit consent. We do not sell Your Content to third parties.
You are solely responsible for the legality, accuracy, and appropriateness of Your Content. By uploading content to the Service, you represent and warrant that:
We reserve the right (but have no obligation) to review, refuse to host, or remove any content that we determine in our sole discretion violates these Terms, applicable law, or the rights of any third party. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before removing content, except where immediate removal is required by law or to protect the security or integrity of the Service.
The household vault feature is available exclusively to users on the Vault or Lifetime plan. Free Pocket plan users cannot create or join household vaults.
A household vault may include the owner and up to four additional members, for a maximum of five people total. Only one household vault may be active per account at a time.
Household vault members can view, add, and edit receipts and documents within the shared vault. Members cannot view the vault owner's personal (non-shared) receipts or vaults. The vault owner may, at any time and without prior notice to members, modify member permissions, remove members, or dissolve the household vault.
As a household vault owner, you are responsible for the conduct of members you invite. You represent that you have a genuine household relationship with invited members and that all members consent to having their shared receipt data visible to other household members.
When a member is removed from a household vault, or when a household vault is dissolved, that member's personal receipts (in their own vaults) are unaffected. Receipts added to the shared vault by a removed member remain in the shared vault unless the vault owner deletes them. Removed members immediately lose access to the shared vault.
If the vault owner's subscription lapses, all household members lose access to the shared vault until the subscription is renewed. Members' personal accounts and their own data are not affected by the owner's subscription status.
Your privacy matters to us. Our collection and use of personal data in connection with the Service is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.
If there is a conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy regarding personal data, the Privacy Policy will govern.
The Paperstack name, the "Ps" wordmark and brand mark, the app's user interface design, visual design system, icons, copy, and all underlying software, algorithms, and technology are the intellectual property of Paperstack and its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
Nothing in these Terms grants you any right, title, or interest in our intellectual property. You may not use the Paperstack name, logo, or brand marks without our prior written permission.
As stated in Section 6, you retain ownership of Your Content. We make no claim to any intellectual property rights in Your Content beyond the limited license described in Section 6.
If you submit feedback, ideas, or suggestions about the Service ("Feedback"), you agree that we may use that Feedback without any obligation to compensate you. Feedback does not constitute Your Content and is not subject to confidentiality obligations on our part.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Paperstack uses AI to extract data from receipt images. This technology is not perfect. We do not warrant that OCR parsing results (merchant name, amount, line items, date) are accurate, complete, or error-free. You should review parsed data and correct any errors. We are not responsible for any decisions made in reliance on inaccurate parsed data.
The warranty tracking feature is a convenience tool to help you stay aware of product warranty periods based on data you enter. We are not responsible for missed warranty claims, incorrect warranty durations, or any consequential loss arising from inaccurate warranty information. We do not verify warranty terms with manufacturers or retailers. For authoritative warranty information, consult your original receipt and the manufacturer's documentation.
We do not warrant that the Service will be available at all times, uninterrupted, or free of errors. We may take the Service offline for maintenance, upgrades, or circumstances beyond our control. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime in advance.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties. In those jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law, and you may have additional statutory rights that we cannot disclaim.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PAPERSTACK AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Cap on Liability: Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, regardless of the form of action, is limited to the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or gross negligence. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability in such cases.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Paperstack and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:
We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of the defense of any claim for which we are entitled to indemnification, at your expense. You agree to cooperate with our defense of such claims. You may not settle any claim without our prior written consent.
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time by going to Settings → Account → Delete Account in the Paperstack app, or by contacting us at support@trypaperstack.app. Account deletion is permanent. Your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you have an active subscription, you should cancel it separately through iOS Settings before deleting your account to avoid future charges.
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without prior notice, if:
For serious violations (e.g., illegal activity, fraud, harassment), we may terminate your account immediately without notice.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. We will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If your account is terminated by us for cause, you will not receive a refund of any subscription fees already paid. If your account is terminated for reasons other than cause, we will refund a pro-rated portion of any prepaid annual subscription fees.
The following sections survive termination of these Terms: Section 6 (Your Content — the limited license terminates, but the representations remain), Section 9 (Intellectual Property), Section 10 (Disclaimers), Section 11 (Limitation of Liability), Section 12 (Indemnification), Section 14 (Governing Law), and any other provisions that by their nature should survive termination.
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes) are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Before initiating any formal dispute resolution, you agree to contact us at support@trypaperstack.app and describe your dispute in reasonable detail, giving us 30 days to attempt to resolve the matter informally. Most concerns can be resolved this way quickly.
IF WE ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE YOUR DISPUTE INFORMALLY, YOU AND PAPERSTACK AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE, CLAIM, OR CONTROVERSY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE — INCLUDING ANY QUESTION OF WHETHER SUCH DISPUTE IS ARBITRABLE — SHALL BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY BY BINDING ARBITRATION ADMINISTERED BY THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION (AAA) UNDER ITS CONSUMER ARBITRATION RULES, RATHER THAN IN COURT.
The arbitration shall be conducted in English. The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court with competent jurisdiction. The AAA's rules are available at adr.org.
For claims under $10,000, you may choose to conduct arbitration by phone or video rather than in person. For claims under $25,000, we agree to bear AAA filing and arbitrator fees unless the arbitrator finds your claim to be frivolous.
YOU AND PAPERSTACK AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. Unless both parties agree in writing, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims.
Notwithstanding the above, either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if the claim qualifies under applicable small claims court rules.
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may also have the right to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr) and to seek resolution through your local consumer protection authority. Mandatory consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction apply and are not waived by these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will indicate the effective date of any revision at the top of this page.
For material changes — changes that significantly affect your rights, add new obligations, or modify how disputes are resolved — we will notify you by email at the address associated with your account at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The notification will summarize the changes and link to the updated Terms.
For non-material changes (such as clarifications, formatting updates, or corrections), we may update the Terms without prior notice.
Your continued use of the Service after material changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may close your account before the changes take effect.
We will never retroactively apply changes that are less favorable to you to disputes that arose before the new Terms took effect.
